Boycott Sponsors of 2008 Olympics in China

March 21st, 2008 · 11 Comments

Goodbye Snickers, goodbye Staples, and goodbye UPS. The Chinese takeover and abuse of Tibet and Tibetans is tormenting me. Not to mention the situation in Darfur. I feel so helpless. It’s the least I can do. You could do it too if you felt so moved. Please try.

Here is a complete list of corporate sponsors.

I’m not kidding.

Agreed about the helpless feeling. Luckily I don’t do a lot of business with “Great Wall” :)

    Thank goodness!

Do you have an e-mail list of these sponsors? I want to send them all an e-mail letting me know my feeling on Tibet and why we should all boycott there products and services. There is also a war on YouTube. Its the Chinese propaganda against the rest of the free World. Post your videos and add your comments. I need your help, the Tibetans need your help and the World needs your help. It has been getting ugly there but war is hell.

thanks for providing a list of the sponsors, I’d been looking for it! lol. I want to do my best to not purchase anything from any of these companies.

Don’t quite understand why we would boycott sponsors of the Olympics. By politicising the Games you will destroy a world asset for peace. ANY AND EVERY political agenda must be avoided. By the way, your books are being sold using Visa.

Teapot, thank you for the comment. I posted this info because I couldn’t bear the situation between China and Tibet. I may indeed be wrong to have done so. My mind isn’t settled about it.

I can’t control the way my books are sold. All I did was cancel my own VISA card.

Regarding your reply “I can’t control the way my books are sold. All I did was cancel my own VISA card.”….not so! You can request that people can not use a Visa card to pay for something. Asked your Merchant Processor or whoever the Vendor is that is selling the books on your behalf.

Here’s yet another reason for boycotting the Olympics or place pressure on their Sponsors…..

One more piece of advice about credit cards……

Visa is a ‘Membership’ corporation, meaning that it’s the Banks (and Credit Unions) that issue the actual cards, take your payments, raise your interest rates. If one cancels their Visa card, that same Bank (who is indirectly a Sponsor of the Olympics due to its Membership affiliation with Visa Inc.) can turn around and offer you a Master Card. Don’t be fooled, it’s still the same Bank (aka indirect Sponsor). The only way around it is to apply for a Discover or Amex card. These two organisations are their own Card Issuing Bank.

BTW–Merchant that want to accept credit cards are signed up by most of those same card issuing Banks (not Credit Unions) via third party Merchant Processing Companies.

Great Work. It is time people stood up for human rights against the almighty dollar. Ring radio stations. Write letters to newspapers. Let others know that people are more important than $$$.
Imagine if a major McSponsor withdrew and publicized why they withdrew thier $$$. They would be flocked to and forever immortalized. It would be Win-Win for the sponsor and for human rights.

“DON’T POLITICISE THE GAMES”. I agree. Let the athletes from tibet compete under their own flag. Give compensation to those whose homes were destroyed in the process of building the Olympic area. and stop locking up, and torturing them when they complain.
