Suddenly obsessesed
With completely redoing my office. It’s a small room and it’s driving me crazy. I’m pining for elegance, order, and total upliftedness.
Here is what I have:

Here is what I long for:

This would be OK too:

Or this:

Nothing wrong with this:

I like the or this one, 3rd example from the top! Simple and room to think!
From your pictures, it looks like you really need more light, more of an open feeling…a fun project!

The thing the rooms you like have in common is an abundance of natural light.
Natural light is the most important thing for indoor happiness.
Since you probably won’t be adding more windows to that room I’d start by taking everything out and only adding things back in as you need them.
You’re so right. It’s the light that I crave! I have so many floor lamps, it’s not funny.
Today has been quite overcast; it’s usually a bit brighter in here
I love the idea of taking everything out and only bringing in stuff as I need it.
WIll keep you all posted with pics!
Hey, I like your site Nathan! Very cool and funny and useful with a great dash of wisecrack-ery. Which is just about my favorite combo. http://nathanbowers.com/
I never realized until now how fortunate I am in my work environment. I’m the only one in my apartment building who has a back door, five feet from my work, which opens onto a deck (fire escape landing) and admits an Abundance of light and air… and friendly flies, and hornets, and moths, and even a bold young squirrel now and then. It faces south; I get Sun all day and Moon all night. And there’s a window even closer to me.
This faces me as I work:

I suppose it would do me more good in the bat’s place, where I can see it more often. Maybe I’ll make that adjustment.
Nice…
RT @spiver Home office inspiration. http://bit.ly/11NCzA Mine is worse than the first one.
I agree with the earlier comments, that you need more light and white space in your office. The blues that you have painted on the wall might even be too dark – perhaps white walls with accents of blue?
Another idea – it looks like you have hardwood floors. It’s extreme, but don’t be afraid to paint the floors a lighter color (the white in that great balcony office pic is worn, but looks great). Or, at minimum, get a lighter colored rug.
Great luck to you!
